The Winchester Live at Home Scheme, which is part of a national initiative of Methodist Homes, is one of about 50 similar schemes set up round the country. The main aim is to ’recruit, train and equip volunteers to provide support and friendship to older people in Winchester who still live in their own homes and may have become isolated and lonely for whatever reason’. Image The Winchester scheme is based in the United Church, Jewry Street, Winchester and was set up in July 2000. Since then Volunteers have been recruited, older people supported and weekly activities organised


The Scheme has a Scheme Manager, Claire Morgan, three Assistant Managers and an Administrator. They are supported by a steering committee.

With local and Statutory Body support the Scheme has gone from strength to strength. We now have over 230 members and 80 volunteers.

The various activities that the members enjoy have also increased. We now provide a Monday Walking Group, Tuesday Men’s Pub Lunch, Tuesday Exercise Plus Class, Wednesday Friendship Club, Wednesday New Age Kurling Group, Friday Lunch Club, monthly Friday Art and Craft Group, One-to-One Support, help with shopping, a Telephone Link  program as well as a range of regular outings.
