This is an initiative of Churches Together in Winchester which originally used church halls but eventually was able to acquire its own premises which were successfully adapted to provide attractive accommodation for up to 16 travellers, both men and women who would otherwise be sleeping ‘rough’.
The shelter is open every night from 6 o’clock. It serves an evening meal and breakfast to the residents. There is a paid manager and volunteers serve meals and clean the premises, with some staying overnight. Evening meals are provided on a rota basis by a number of churches including the United Church. The shelter meets a vital need in Winchester and is often full. |
