Winchester Live at Home Scheme 

 Memory Café – held on the first Friday of each month, 10.30 am–12.30 pm, in Room 2 at The United Church.  This is run in conjunction with the Winchester Dementia Support Group for anyone who would like more information or requires support in dealing with all types of dementia.  This drop-in is open to carers, family and friends, volunteers and those suffering with dementia.  

Tesco Collection – 4 February.  We will be outside Tesco collecting small change to put towards the running of the Scheme. If you are able to help out, please contact the office.

Annual General Meeting Friday 16 March at The United Church.  The meeting will start at 12 noon and will consist of a short meeting, followed by an informal lunch. Deputy Mayor, Cllr Frank Pearson will be attending and the focus for the meeting will be a celebration of the work of our ‘Fit for Life’ project.

Our ‘Fit for Life’ exercise scheme is aimed at encouraging those who have poor mobility or balance problems to continue exercising after being discharged from the RHCH Falls Clinic. We currently offer three services under the ‘Fit for Life’ programme: a weekly short walking group, a weekly exercise group called ‘Exercise Plus’ and an at home one-to-one exercise programme. 

Please remember the Scheme in your prayers. This is a difficult time for many of our Members who are adversely affected by public sector cuts and by bus service reductions. We are receiving an increasing number of requests for transport - if you know of anyone who could help with this, regularly or occasionally, please consider suggesting they contact the Scheme to see if they can help.

Keystone was founded in 1989 to provide reasonably priced accommodation in Winchester for people who need somewhere to live.

This is a initiative on the part of city centre churches to provide a chaplain for those who work in the city.

Winter Fuel Allowance

A local rector, a keen supporter of the Nightshelter, suggested that some of the better off members of the community might be able to forego their winter fuel allowance and donate this instead to charity – to the Nightshelter who can use the money to ensure someone homeless has a bed, the warmth of a home albeit temporary, together with food, support and camaraderie. We have just finished our building extension works so that we can now accommodate 17 people every night, and demand is still extremely high.

Counselling is available five days a week, during the daytime and evenings. The counsellors are volunteers from a number of Winchester churches and are professionally trained as well as being Christians.
